Mayan social classes

The Maya social classes is a system of political organization. It is divided in ahau (king), nobles, priests, merchants and artisans, and peasants and slaves. The top of the ladder was constituted by priests and kings along with royal families . Much like other civilizations of the ancient worl the Mayans depended on their social classes to keep order and structure within their society. The ruler in each city-state was the highest authority. The Mayans had a decentralized government.


The Mayan social class could be divided into sections. With the priest at the top level, then comes the nobles and wealthy people. Of course, the highest in the Mayan social structure were the kings.
